At the AEW WrestleDream 2023 pay-per-view event, held in Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena, we witnessed an intense showdown between AEW TNT Champion Christian Cage and Darby Allin in a thrilling Two out of Three Falls Match.
The match kicked off with Cage taking the early advantage, but Allin managed to secure the first fall with a surprising move, using his turtleneck to roll up Cage out of nowhere. The action was fast-paced, with Allin attempting a code red and a springboard move, coming close to a third fall on multiple occasions. However, Allin’s momentum took a hit when he missed a coffin drop onto the arena floor.
Cage then suplexed Allin off the apron onto the steel steps not once, but twice, evening the score at 1-1 with a fall of his own. This brutal encounter prompted the medical team to bring out a stretcher for Allin, while Cage proceeded to tear up the ring canvas. The match continued with Cage delivering a splash off the middle rope onto Allin, who was lying on the exposed wood. Cage then attempted the kill switch on the bare canvas but only managed to secure a near fall.
The tide of the match shifted as Allin fought back, first escaping the scorpion death lock and then hitting a scorpion death drop. Allin came close to victory with a coffin drop, but Cage kicked out. In a shocking turn of events, Cage executed a sunset flip powerbomb on the unforgiving wood. Chaos ensued as Cage accidentally speared the referee and followed it up with a low blow to Allin.
Nick Wayne entered the fray, swiping the TNT Title from Cage and using it to strike Allin, allowing Cage to pin his opponent and retain the championship.
After the match, Wayne continued to assault Allin until Sting came to the ring, attacking both Wayne and Cage. However, the odds stacked against Sting when Luchasaurus joined the fray. Cage was about to strike Sting with a conchairto, when Adam Copeland (Edge) made his entrance, confronting Cage, taking the chair, and ultimately coming to Sting’s aid by clearing the ring.
