AJ Styles Hints at Retirement, Attacks Cody Rhodes on WWE SmackDown

At the end of the May 31 episode of WWE SmackDown, AJ Styles went to the ring and addressed his future in the ring. He mentioned to Nick Aldis that he didn’t have enough time to earn a world title shot.

Throughout the show, there were hints that Styles might be announcing his retirement. Backstage, he hugged Cody Rhodes before coming to the ring with his O.C. stablemates Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows, despite their recent problems.

Styles reflected on his career and how he had worked hard to get to where he was but felt he might need to stay home and be a phenomenal father, having missed many moments with his family. He expressed his love for Gallows and Anderson, sharing a heartfelt moment with them. Styles then called Cody Rhodes to the ring, stating their match at WWE Backlash was a fitting way to end his career and symbolically handed Rhodes the keys to “The House that AJ Styles built.”

In a surprising twist, after Rhodes emotionally thanked Styles and they hugged, Styles suddenly attacked Rhodes, hitting him with a Styles Clash off the steel steps while Gallows and Anderson prevented officials from intervening.
