Cain Velasquez arrested after alleged involvement in shooting

Former UFC heavyweight champion and WWE star Cain Velasquez was jailed Monday after he was involved in a shooting in Morgan Hill, California that left one man with a with non-life threatening injury.

Velasquez is currently being held at the County of Santa Clara Department of Corrections facility without bail. No charges were listed, and the reason for his detainment isn’t known.

The San Jose police media relations office tweeted that the injured man was shot “at least once” and was “transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injures.” One suspect was in police custody, but a motive was unknown. The shooting was reported at 3:14 p.m. local time, police said.

Velasquez is a two-time UFC heavyweight champion. Velasquez initially made his professional wrestling debut in AAA before signing with WWE in 2019 where he only had one official match, unsuccessfully challenging Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship at Crown Jewel. He was later released in in April 2020.
