Mayor of London pledges to bring WWE WrestleMania to the city

As part of his re-election campaign for Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan has pledged to bring WrestleMania to the city, underscoring a major commitment to enhancing its global sports profile.

The WWE has recently expanded its hosting of Premium Live Events beyond North America and Canada, with significant events like Clash at the Castle in Wales in 2022, Money in the Bank in London last year, and an upcoming WWE Clash at the Castle in Scotland this June. Further, the organization plans to hold events in France and Germany in 2024.

Following John Cena’s appeal for London to host WWE’s marquee event during his appearance at Money in the Bank, there was heightened speculation about a possible WrestleMania in London. However, WWE president Nick Khan dampened these expectations earlier this month by stating his preference for keeping the company’s top five events within North America.

Nevertheless, Sadiq Khan in a recent press release renewed the possibility, indicating his intention to explore London as a potential venue for WrestleMania. Khan said, “London is a world leader in major sports events and has been at the heart of some of the most memorable sporting moments of the last few decades.

“From the Olympics, to the Lionesses winning the Euros at Wembley, to the Ashes at Lord’s and The Oval, London is where it’s at. If I’m re-elected on 2 May, I’m determined to go even further and fully cement London’s reputation as the undisputed sports capital of the world. I believe that London has the potential to host the first international WrestleMania.
