Report: CM Punk suffered a torn tricep during the WWE Royal Rumble

In only his third match since returning to WWE, and his first on television, CM Punk was injured in the Royal Rumble match.

Competing in the Men’s Royal Rumble Match, CM Punk advanced to the final two with Cody Rhodes to secure a spot in the main event of WrestleMania 40. Rhodes ended up winning the Rumble match and is poised to challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed Universal Title. Meanwhile, Dave Meltzer is reporting that Punk sustained a significant injury during the Royal Rumble match.

Meltzer highlighted the lack of specific details about the injury from WWE officials, beyond acknowledging its occurrence. It’s expected that Punk will disclose more about the injury in tonight’s edition of Raw. There’s speculation within WWE circles that Punk may have torn his triceps, though this has not been officially confirmed.

Meltzer also pointed out a telling moment in the Rumble match. A referee checked on Punk, who mentioned an issue with his “triceps.” This injury reportedly occurred towards the match’s end, following a future shock DDT executed by Drew McIntyre.

This would mark the second instance of Punk suffering a triceps tear. He previously experienced a similar injury in his right arm in September 2022, during a bout with Jon Moxley at AEW All Out.

Update – 3:00pm EST

According to a report by PWInsider, it has been confirmed that Punk sustained a triceps tear during the Royal Rumble match. He is expected to undergo surgery following his appearance on tonight’s Raw in Tampa.

The WWE anticipates that Punk’s recovery and physical therapy could span 4-6 months post-surgery. This timeline suggests he would miss WrestleMania, and his potential return to the ring might not occur until the summer, assuming he undergoes surgery within the coming week.
