WWE announced today that the 21st annual Tribute to the Troops will air on FOX at 8 p.m. ET on Friday, December 8, from the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, R.I.
WWE Tribute to the Troops is an annual event held by WWE and Armed Forces Entertainment. It is a televised special that honors and entertains United States Armed Forces members that typically airs in December, during the holiday season.
The first Tribute to the Troops was held in 2003 and it has been held every year since then. In the early years of the event, WWE put on shows for troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
In recent years WWE has done the show in the United States, promoting events at (and nearby) domestic military bases, as well as visiting sites such as Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Bethesda Naval Hospital. The Tribute to the Troops event typically features a mix of wrestling matches, musical performances, and appearances by celebrities and military personnel.
